TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone)
The first-line screening test. Shows whether your thyroid is underactive or overactive.
The thyroid is a small gland in your neck that sets the pace of your body: energy, weight, heart rate, mood and body temperature. When it works too slowly or too fast, you can feel unwell for months before finding the cause. A simple blood test gives a clear answer.
Talk to your doctor and consider testing if you notice these signs.
Unexplained fatigue, weight gain or loss, or feeling too cold or too hot.
Hair thinning, dry skin, low mood, anxiety or trouble sleeping.
Thyroid checks matter when planning pregnancy or if thyroid disease runs in the family.
Test TSH, T3 and T4 on their own, or save with the complete profile.

Typical ranges are shown for guidance. Reference ranges vary by lab, age and pregnancy, so your report lists the exact values to compare against.
Thyroid tests are simple, but a few things can affect the result.
Eat and drink normally. You can have water, tea or coffee before your sample.
If you take thyroid tablets, ask your doctor about timing. Many patients are asked to take them after the sample is collected.
Biotin in hair, skin and nail supplements can change thyroid results. Ask your doctor whether to pause it for about 2 days.
Morning samples are best. TSH changes through the day, so test at a similar time whenever you repeat it.
